The Maeda Project

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt and Lineage Database - Version III

As of September 2017, Rolljunkie is no longer maintaining this database. We are leaving the database online as a resource to the community, however, submissions will not be reviewed or added. At some point, if there is continued interest, we may consider renewing this project. Until then, hope you find the listings we do have informative.

Rolljunkie got it’s start making gear and apparel for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu players. Named after Mitsutyo Maeda, The Maeda Project was initially created as a Rolljunkie side project to document the lineage of BJJ black belts. Since it’s inception, the Project has received significant interest and our database continues to expand.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Lineage Database

Now on version III, the Project includes new features to go along with our interactive lineage tree such as browse and search pages. A new contributor form has streamlined the process for adding and updating entries in our database. We have also expanded our database to include profile information for black belts including pictures, bio & achievements, academy information, and other information.

About Contributions

We do our best to maintain this database for the BJJ community, however, contributions may sometimes take several months before they are added to the tree/database. If we are uncertain about the validity of a contribution, such as when no verification methods are provided, the contribution will not be added. Anonymous contributions are less likely to be added to the database.
Frauds be warned. The BJJ community is extremely efficient at identifying and publically calling out fake BJJ black belts. It's one of the great things about having a traceable lineage. Fraudulant submissions to our database will be removed.
